Lesson 6 of 7 · 5 min
One card, 3 cards, or Celtic Cross: when to use each one.
A "spread" is simply how many cards are drawn and in what positions, where each position has its own meaning (past, present, obstacle, etc.). The bigger the spread, the more detailed the analysis — but you don't always need the biggest one.
One card is the simplest spread: ideal for a specific question that needs a direct answer, without much detour.
The 3-card spread (past, present, and future) builds a small narrative: useful when you want to understand how you got to a situation and where it seems to be heading.
The Celtic Cross, with 10 cards, is the classic spread for a complete analysis: it covers the current situation, the main obstacle, deep causes, your surroundings, your own hopes and fears, and a possible outcome. It's best saved for big questions, not quick day-to-day check-ins.
