Upright and reversed

When cards are drawn at random from a shuffled deck, each one can come up "upright" (in its normal orientation) or "reversed" (turned upside down). Not every reading tradition gives this the same weight: some people read only the upright meaning of each card, no matter how it falls, and there's no single "correct" way to do it.

Among those who do use reversals, the most common reading is that the reversed meaning isn't "the opposite" or something negative, but the same energy of the card expressing itself differently: blocked, in excess, or asking to be looked at inward before being projected outward.
